Embryo vitrification work developed by Instituto Bernabeu biologist, Rafael Sellers, included in the Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics journal

  • 12-12-2018

The Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics has published a master’s degree dissertation written by Instituto Bernabeu biologist, Rafael Sellers. The research work entitled ‘Clinical outcomes in elective vitrification of embryos’, was managed by the Director of the Embryology Unit, Dr Jorge Ten.

The aim of the research was to compare the clinical results obtained in the elective vitrification of embryos programme with those obtained in fresh transfer plus freezing of the remaining embryos. The study concludes that elective embryo vitrification helped to avoid complications such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHS) and that it provided clinical results that are comparable to those obtained during transfer of fresh embryos.

The results obtained in the study based on almost 300 cycles indicated that the embryo implantation percentage rate is similar in both cases, particularly in embryos that are assigned the highest categories (A and B).
