Dr Rafael Bernabeu, Medical Director of the Instituto Bernabeu Group, has been appointed Vice-President of the Executive Board of the Sterility and Infertility Section of the Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (S.E.I.S.E.G.O.) for this year. 

Vitrification almost entirely eliminates the most significant issue in freezing which is the formation of ice crystals. Carrying it out implies high concentrations of cryoprotectants and extremely fast cooling. 

Embryo biopsy in blastocyst stage for aneuploidy screening (CCS) has been proven to be safe for the embryo and provide improved diagnostic reliability. Embryo biopsy can be carried out on day 5 of development or on day 6 in the case of embryos with a slower development pattern. Earlier research indicated that embryos present different morphokinetic parameters depending on if they are XX or XY. 

It is well known that in assisted reproduction treatment the presence of chromosomal abnormalities (aneuploidy) in embryos is relatively high, and that these disorders are mainly related to maternal age. However, as far as paternal age is concerned, there tends to be controversy between authors of the scarce work that has been published to date in this regard.
