At the European Human Genetics Conference (ESHG) that will be held this year in Barcelona on Saturday, May 21st, Dr. Ruth Morales will present her work entitled “Mosaic embryos can achieve good IVF success rates”.
The techniques for chromosomal analysis of embryos that we currently apply at the Instituto Bernabeu offer a diagnosis in less than 24 hours. This allows us to perform biopsies on blastocysts on day 5 of culture and conclude the fresh transfer of the chromosomally normal embryos on day 6 of culture. Sometimes it is necessary to delay transfer to a later cycle, which makes it necessary to cryopreserve the biopsied embryos, which may, in theory, be more sensitive to cryopreservation. Therefore, we considered whether the biopsy process may affect the embryo’s capacity to survive cryopreservation.
As a result of social changes in recent years, women are being obliged to delay motherhood. After the age of 35, not only is ovarian response much lower but, moreover, a considerable and progressive reduction is observed in the quality of the oocytes and pregnancy is more complicated. This is why poor responder patients seeking a professional centre for their treatment entrust their care to the Instituto Bernabeu, enabling us to investigate the most appropriate treatment protocols comparing the responses.
